Davis Family Update

15-Month Stats

Sophia had her 15-month wellness check-up today. Here are the latest stats:

Height: 32 inches (Still in the 90th percentile!)
Weight: 23 lbs 8 oz (75th percentile)
Head circumference: 18 1/2 inches (Still in the 90th percentile - She is going to be a smarty-pants, this one!)

She had to endure two more shots, but there is a light at the end of the vaccination tunnel soon.

Bubbles!

Sophia is now clearly saying "Bubbles!" She continues to be nuts about bubbles and is quite dejected about the fact that the bubble machine at school is now broken.

What a week!

It has been awhile since I have provided an update on Sophia's progress. This last week we saw quite a learning spurt! Here are the highlights:

Drunken sailor

Sophia is now walking...albeit like a sailor who has had way too much to drink. She can take about 8 steps or so before she loses her balance and topples over.

First word

Only one letter away in the alphabet...Sophia's first word was not Mom but rather Moo. She has developed a fascination with all things cow, so much so that when we were shopping the other day she continued to moo even though we could not see any cows around. Lo and behold, on the wall along with all the other stuffed animals was a cow rattle. Amazing!

Body parts

Sophia now can add another body part to her bag of tricks. She can already touch her ear on command. She now can also stick out her tongue. The tongue has also been linked to frogs. One day Sophia came at me with one of her Baby Einstein books in hand and her tongue sticking out. Odd, I thought, until I realized she was copying the frog in the book who sticks out his tongue and says "Blah!". I nearly kissed her to death it was so cute.

Who's calling

Sophia now fully understands the function of the phone. Another moment where she was nearly smothered for her cutest was when she pointed in the direction of the phone and then touched her ear when Brad brought her into our bedroom to alert him that she wanted the phone. She sits mesmerized when she hears Grandma or Pop-Pops on the other end and will cause a fuss if I am talking and she can't get in on the conversation.

First Steps!

Yesterday at school Sophia took her first steps! Yes, I am a bit sad that I wasn't the first one to see it happen, but nonetheless this is a very exciting development. She hasn't show her parents this new skill yet, but she was taking some steps while only holding on to Mommy's one finger.

Look out Jesse and Missy (our dog and cat for those of you don't know our fuzzy children)...she's coming for you two!

Tooth #3 has made an appearance

One of Sophia's top teeth has pushed through. When I noticed it yesterday morning, Sophia seemed so proud and smiled her cute 2 1/2 tooth smile to show off. Guess we need to start the brushing routine soon - which will upset our bottle before bed routine. Oh boy.

Squeeze Me

The other day Sophia discovered that when she squeezes her star fish tub toy, it squirts water in her face. This makes Sophia laugh. She also discovered that when she squeezes real hard (which is absolutely adorable) and no more water comes out, she needs to put the toy under water to fill it back up. It only took two times for Mommy to show her this trick and Sophia picked it up right away. All is cute and fun right now...but how long will it take Sophia to realize that it is even more fun to turn the toy the other way and squirt Mommy?

Sloppy Kisses

After receiving perhaps thousands of kisses in her short life time, Sophia is now trying to return the sentiment to others. Thus far, Grandma and Daddy have been the only lucky recipients to receive these kisses which are more like tastings, according to Brad. She moves in for the kiss and then out comes the tongue for a nice wet lick.

Sophia also likes to make a "mmmhaw" kissing noise which she has copied from Mommy throwing kisses to her. This has been added to her sound repetorie which still includes raspberries, "bop-bop-bop", "ma-ma-ma", and a unique high pitched squeak followed by "ah" which seems to be some kind of secret language between Sophia and Brad.

In Like Flynn

Sophia, after careful observation for the past number of months, has made a connection with the concept of "in". From very early on, she got the idea of dumping things out and taking things off. However, today Sophia now realizes she can put things back in and on too!

Her gumball machine has now become much more interesting since she can put the balls back in after she presses the handle to get them all out. Before, after all four balls were released it was time to move on.

It is also great fun to take the tub toys out of her tub and put them on the end of the actual tub, move the remote controls from the coffee table to the couch, take her blocks out of their container (one by one) and put them back in.

BREAKING NEWS

I stand corrected. There is not one tooth pushing through her lower gums - it is two! :)

I Do It Myself!

It has started already. The other night Sophia and I settled into the chair in her room for her last bottle of the evening. This evening, however, Sophia wanted to take control. She held the bottle by herself the entire time, pulling it in and out of her mouth with ease. Then she got cocky and started holding it one-handed!
