I know, I know. You think it can't be done. My earlier post about pre-dinner battles proves that out. But sometimes...sometimes...it really works! Case in point...bedtime. Lately our darling daughter has been very uninterested in going to bed even if we move her bedtime back a half hour or so. The result: one of us needed to sit in her room for AN HOUR (or more) and wait until she fell asleep and then very careful leave without causing the child to suddenly pop up with a look of terror on her face. Free evening time gone. Not good.
On to the scene steps Grandma. She has a new approach. Reason with her. Hmmm...ok.
"Peanut, if you get in your crib, I will read you a book. OK?"
"Yeah."
Whoa. OK, let's try some more.
"Peanut, if you lay down Mommy will sing you Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, ok?"
Down she goes. Amazing!
"Peanut, Mommy will sing you one more song then it is time for night-night. I will leave the door open and the hall light on. OK?"
Silence. I walk out slowly. No crying. I leave the room. NO crying. This is truly a wonderful thing.
