The Drop Off Blues

Since Sophia has been transitioned to her new classroom, drop off has not been a happy experience...for either of us. She used to be excited about seeing her teachers and friends every morning. No more. She clings to me each morning sobbing. This is not a good feeling having to leave my daughter in the care of others while she tearfully watches me exit the room.

I am told she stops crying minutes after I leave which helps me feel somewhat better but it still makes me wonder why the sudden change in behavior? Should I be worried?

Baby in the Water

Our daughter is fearless while wet. She seems to think she has the ability to swim like her parents and big sisters do and does not understand the reason why it is so critical that her daddy or mommy hold her tightly while in the pool.

"Aw 'cmon Ma! Look...I can put my open mouth under the water no problem. <cough> <sputter> <cough>. 'Cmon. Let me swim over to daddy. <cough><gag>"

She also refuses to sit in her nifty new Speedo float which would ease her parents' minds and give their arms and backs a break. Needless to say, this is not a relaxing time at the pool for Mommy.

Take That Daddy!

This morning our darling child woke up cranky and stayed cranky. She did not want her diaper changed. She did not want to get dressed. She did not want to play while her dad got her breakfast ready. She did not want to eat the breakfast when it was served.

So this morning there was a bit of conflict in the Davis household...and we realized Sophia can hold a grudge (although not more than a few minutes). Refusing to eat her breakfast, she of course wanted to mooch off of Mom. "More!!", she yelled. "Say please!", her father answered back. The child stopped. She stared back at her father, not pleased. She walked over the her father. He leaned in. She pushed his face. Take that Daddy!

Angel and Devil

How quickly Sophia can go from adorable, sweet child that causes me to beam with pride to tempermental, fussy child which luckily doesn't often exhibit itself in public places...yet. Yes folks. We have reached the so called "terrible twos". Although I don't know whether I would say they are terrible, just some times very annoying. And yet also so thrilling to observe. While Sophia is pushing the limits and testing her independence she also as the most adorable way of saying thank you (datoo!) when you hand her something. One moment a tightened grip on the arm, the next moment smothered with kisses. Hmmm, I suppose she thinks we are going through a terrible stage too.

18-Month Check-Up

OK, I realize I have been very negligent in keeping up with things on this blog lately so today I have some real catching up to do. Let's start with some stats and some new pics:

Height: 33 inches (75-90%)
Weight: 25 lbs (75%)
Head: 19 inches (90-95%)

So as you can see our child is tall and big brained. All is well.
